After sharing my workouts with some special women a couple of weeks ago, I’ve had the opportunity to discuss a little bit about how and why I designed my new workouts the way I did and I thought I’d share that with you. I also hope this will address some of the questions I’ve received on this site about what I’ve been up to.
First of all, I’ve been doing resistance training now for over 20 years. I started in high school and though my weight fluctuated a good bit, I’ve always incorporated some form or fashion of resistance. I used to think that to do resistance training only meant you could use dumbbells or weight machines from a gym. So, when I was trying to lose weight after I had Wilson that’s exactly the approach I took. I wanted to jump back into my heavy weights as fast as I could and force my body back into some sort of pre-pregnancy shape. And that’s where I went wrong…for weeks I tried to get through workouts that in the past had been pretty doable for me and not only was I physically struggling, I was mentally burnt out. And as any new mom knows – you barely have enough energy to get through the day – much less a special reserve to give you a pep rally to get through a workout!
That’s when I started experimenting with bands and with exercises that used my own body’s resistance based on planes of gravity. I had to take a few steps back and just trust that it was okay to try something new, to take the time to intelligently and patiently develop a system that would make me actually look forward to my 5AM workouts. So, I headed off to Target and bought some bands. (since then I’ve bought many, many more….they’re so cheap that I can’t resist when I see a new type!) I took out an old notebook, tried some exercises, created some exercises – and discovered a new approach on how to train.
Many of you have seen my split workouts posted on this blog, so that’s the approach I took with the bands. I divided my body up into different parts and then on different days focused on specific muscles. I wont’ go into more details on that part at this time, but on my new website coming up I’ll have plenty of information on that. Let me just tell you – I quickly learned that not only did the bands challenge me in a new way that lead to long, lean muscle development and a figure that I haven’t seen since before college, but they left me feeling energized, recharged and IN charge.
I have to say that I was thrilled when a friend of mine told me that I should check out an episode of Oprah from this past week where Gwyneth Paltrow was talking about her struggles to lose baby weight from her second child. She told me that my workouts were similar to what they were talking about. I missed the episode but did go to the website and there she was with her trainer – and it’s all about bands and that type of resistance to keep muscles long, lean and strong.
I’m also thrilled to announce that the workouts will be released on QVC and I’ll provide air dates shortly. This makes me so proud as customer service is of huge importance and they have the best track record out there. Also, I have a new website which will go live in upcoming weeks so be sure to stay tuned so that you can link up with my information there. It will be much more user friendly and is based on much of the feedback I’ve received from you on this blog.
I hope you have wonderful week and if you want to be sure that you don’t miss any updates, please look to the right and click on the link that asks if you want to be updated to be provided with this information automatically.
Take care!!
